How Can I Improve My Pixel Art Workflow Using Pro Motion NG?

Hi everyone,

I have been using Pro Motion NG for a while now and while I love the software…, I am looking for tips on how to streamline my pixel art workflow. Specifically;, I am trying to figure out ways to speed up tasks like color palette management, creating animations and general project organization. I have heard about using layers and shortcuts but I am unsure how to apply them effectively.

Are there any tools or features in Pro Motion NG that can make my process more efficient: ?? How do you organize your workspace or set up projects to save time: ?? Also…, for animation, do you use any particular methods for testing or previewing frames: ??

I would appreciate any advice from those of you who have mastered the software or have a smoother workflow. I am still learning and any tips would be super helpful!!

Looking forward to your insights!

Thanks in advance!

With Regards,

My approach to speeding up using shortcuts and managing them:

  • Additional peripherals and programming a little bit with auto hot key.
  • It’s possible to do this without autohotkey. I just wanted to apply this approach with other programs i use so this exists in the mix.
  • I have 6 extra peripheral “keyboards” with keys set to trigger specific shortcuts so i don’t have to do keyboard acrobatics. e.g. Ctrl+Alt+Shift+L for example. And the other hand will never have to leave the mouse/pen.
  • Included in those extra peripherals are 2 foot controllers. One for each foot. Left has 3 buttons, Right has 4 buttons. I realized one day that 2 other limbs in my body are slacking off. So i put them to work. lol
  • Besides PC purposed macro keyboards, try to look at midi controllers too. You can convert the midi signals into keyboard key combinations. I have 2, one of them is the right foot controller.

Workspace:

  • Try setting up different profiles for different purposes. You don’t have to stick to one.
  • here’s mine:

  • switching it up sometimes is just a mood.

Color palette mgmt.

  • Instead of the usual linear dark-lightest/lightest-darkest arrangement, why not something cartesian? Actually, IDK the term for this. lol. But it’s one of the many things i love from PMNG. And it looks like:

for previewing frames, try light tables:
