Pen only input for tablet

It would be a great addon I think for it to only recognize the pen as an input, on the drawing screen, when its hooked up, but still use fingers and such for the interface. Know what I mean? The MS Surface is not as good as say the iPad in this regard, but I think it might be because of this option in some of its paint programs, and not because of palm detection or something else. This I think would just get rid of palm detection issues.

Internally a OS can give you “mouse” input data (where “mouse” is today a substitute for any pointing device) and gesture input as a completely separate data input stream.
So the OS tells me which action is made with a pen (mouse event) and which is done with the fingers (gesture event).
Maybe there is a setting at the surface control panels that let’s you enable this?
